As a SXSW newbie, I’m having fun hitting the panels, seeing all the tech professionals and enjoying one of my favorite cities – Austin. One reason I’m enjoying it so much? The beer, obviously. Jealous? Well, there’s a great way you can enjoy a beer whether you made it to Austin this year or not.
My employer, Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, has partnered with creative agency tenfour to produce the Tweet-A-Beer app, a fun way to send your favorite friend, colleague or anyone on Twitter a virtual beer.
All you do is visit the Tweet-A-Beer site, link your PayPal account and send $5 to your thirsty friends. I’ve already been enjoying several beers around Austin, so feel free to send some more my way. You may even get a round in return!
Waggener Edstrom Toasts Engagement between Brands and Individuals at SXSW Interactive Festival
AUSTIN, Texas — March 6, 2012 — Multiservice communications agency Waggener Edstrom is built on the foundation of storytelling. For more than 25 years it has found unique ways to bring stories to life; while that hasn’t changed, what have changed are the channels, tools and partnerships used to reach an audience.
This week, at the SXSW Interactive Festival, where innovators, startups, entrepreneurs and investors congregate, Waggener Edstrom will showcase how to foster audience and community engagement through an integrated influence approach based on insights and analytics.
This year, Waggener Edstrom partnered with tenfour, a Portland, Ore.-based creative agency, to bring Tweet-A-Beer to life. Tweet-A-Beer is a mobile Web app that helps people network and socialize by purchasing each other a beer over Twitter, perfect for fostering the face-to-face connections that are a natural part of the SXSW Interactive Festival or for those following through the Twittersphere. This new app is on the heels of the successful launch of the Hot Spots app at last year’s SXSW Interactive Festival, a mobile app for the Windows Phone 7 and iOS smartphone platform that enables users to discover where the most popular hangouts are during SXSW. Users can send a beer directly from Hot Spots while festival attendees check out the hottest events or they can use Tweet-A-Beer’s website. Tweet-A-Beer is the first app to enable personal ecommerce via Twitter. It is built on a platform introduced by Chirpify Inc., another Portland startup, which aligned with PayPal.
“Tweet-A-Beer is an example of leveraging social media to create real-world connections between individuals and brands,” said Reggie Wideman, tenfour director account development. “Smart, integrated campaigns need to bring multiple channels and tools to bear to create real engagement with audiences.” Waggener Edstrom also introduced the News of the Day app for Windows Phone 7. The app features a real-time stream of top company and industry news, as well as top trending stories on Twitter and top company and topic mentions, so clients can have the latest information at their fingertips regardless of where they are.
“Too often in our industry clients’ best interests aren’t served due to a lack of collaboration,” said Kent Hollenbeck, senior vice president, global corporate communications for Waggener Edstrom. “We are intent on changing that. While we’ll continue to drive our own growth, we also know that there is unique value from embracing partnerships that can help brands engage their audiences through both collaborative and independently created solutions. The delivery of these apps showcase what taking a client-first perspective can do.”
In addition to releasing the new apps, Waggener Edstrom will be in the midst of the SXSW Interactive Festival action this year. More information is available at http://wedig.it.
